Library - Institute of Oriental Philosophy
Our library was established in 1989 and, over the last seventeen years, from very small beginnings has grown to almost 13,000 volumes. Our policy has been to build up holdings in all areas (and many languages) of Buddhist studies as well as the sociology, anthropology and philosophy of religion, particularly of the South Asian sub-continent and Japan and China. The IOP-UK library is constantly developing and In addition to the our extensive book collection of primary and secondary sources we currently subscribe to over one hundred journals. We also maintain a variety of databases and materials including UK newspaper cuttings relating to contemporary Buddhism and articles on Buddhism, compiled from bibliographies, journals and other sources.
The collections are kept in our centre at Taplow Court and are easily searchable through their catalogues. Our main library is reference only, and the database is searchable on this site.
Loan Library
An exciting new development has been the opening of our loan library which anyone can join for a small annual subscription. It is a collection made up from duplicates of books in our reference collection and is expanding steadily. Please contact us for more information
We welcome acquisitions suggestions and comments on cataloguing, as well as general enquiries.
